Though perhaps still not rich enough to be able to afford dinner with Her, at the current quoted prices. Not that dinner with the extremely conflicted, restless and increasingly unpredictable Him would come without cost of a different kind. We see less of Him these days than in any other days, and it's a good thing, but we see enough to show us how, by this time, he has wholly given Himself over to whatever it is that's made Him so irritating to be around for quite some time now. We're past trying to cheer Him up with a simple bit of song and dance. Him is a lost cause. Look at Him stumbling about in the dark trying to find a lost cat. That cat will never be found.
The difference between the Him whom you may have encountered earlier and the Him who is here now has already been pointed out. Even more terrible is the difference between the Him who was here yesterday and the Him who may be here tomorrow. Yesterday Him sipped of the milk of human kindness but that was only to strengthen Himself. This only made Him weaker. Tonight his restless sleeplessness makes him lie awake in the dark counting the eight kings, one by one, as they drift in and out of the cave. The idea that this weird chant he keeps hearing is intended to cheer anybody up is too absurd to merit discussion.

searching for Sugimoto. Hiroshi Sugimoto has a fantastic series of images featuring the interiors of American theatres. The series is born from a simple idea: what would happen if a camera were brought into a movie theatre and the shutter kept open for the length of the film. The answer is equally simple but brilliant. After two hours of entertainment nothing remains -- nothing but the light. This is a huge pachinko LED sign. Pachinko is a Japanese gambling pastime. I leave you to draw your own conclusions: photo by StephenCairns, 26 October 2013

A Charm
Ragamuffin wants to know why Blackie disappeared after their first shy, tentative nose kiss. Chased off into the night by a timid opossum no more menacing than himself -- when I staggered out the possum instantly scared startled lurched lumbering over the edge of the broken porch down into the yawning maw of the faultline crack'd alleyway, poor Blackie meanwhile had scared himself and ran off down the broken steps into the night never to reappear so we do worry for him in this horrible speedway zone but, what good did worrying ever do, if worries were money every helpless ancient crippled person on Earth would be as rich as the eight kings.
