Ruins of fire-swept building at 4600 South Paulina Street, 16 January 1949
Taking things that don't belong together, pluralistic
futures, simplistic pasts, hoop
dreams, screened-in porches, perfume of flowers
hanging on the night, x-rays, bermudas
memory spies, shadow architectures
spilt down hallways toward
a stair, or door, concealing
a clock ticking away inside the soft skull
of the child not yet born
