historical solitude feels a little less lonely when you realise
no product of reason can last forever The impermanence
of language and of all human constructs such as parade floats
driven past smoking dumpster fires in heavy night rain
because a word is not a thang but rather the eternally mobile
thangless night medium fluid and shifting through which move
the miniaturised bloblike squirts of yesterday's words
not said by you but by somebody the life of a word is fickle
it gets around you don't know where it has been and the night
rain keeps falling a mist settles over the traffic stream
The life of a word is in its passage between not in you
or me every picture is a word every word a picture
The disquiet a lost word leaves behind unsettles
community can't forget where it's been an earlier life
